Introduction
If
you want a fine days walking only an hour from Glasgow then
Ben Vane, Beinn Ime and Beinn Narnain will prove more than adequate.
With spectacular views across Loch Lomond to the south and east
and Loch Fyne and Inverary to the west. Rumour has it that these
hills even have a ghost - a man with bowler hat and umbrella...
hardly fitting kit for the Scottish hills.
These
three hills are best taken in a clockwise manner starting at
Upper Inveruglas. It is best to park in the lochside carpark
opposite the power station. |
Route
-
From
the summit head NE down the grassy slopes to the head
of Gleann Uaine, from here a steep ascent ENE will lead
you to the summit of Ben Vane (915m, GR278098) At 915m
it checks in at number 283 on the munro tables for the
"stato's" out there!
The
Cobbler (Ben Arthur, 881m, GR259058) can also be included in
this circuit to turn this into a serious day in the hills. Alternatively
this hill can be ascended from Glen Croe, and although it doesn't
cross the lofty 3000ft contour it truly deserves a visit. |
