Introduction

If you want a fine days walking only an hour from Glasgow then Ben Vane, Beinn Ime and Beinn Narnain will prove more than adequate. With spectacular views across Loch Lomond to the south and east and Loch Fyne and Inverary to the west. Rumour has it that these hills even have a ghost - a man with bowler hat and umbrella... hardly fitting kit for the Scottish hills.

These three hills are best taken in a clockwise manner starting at Upper Inveruglas. It is best to park in the lochside carpark opposite the power station.

Route

Leave the carpark (Online multimap) and head south for ~400m to a sharp bend in the A82 where a private road leads to Loch Sloy. Follow this road past the substation and continue to a junction in the road at GR299096.

From this junction turn left and head across the bridge and follow the forestry track west then SW running alongside Allt Coriegrogain.

As you approach the head of the corrie bear SE to the col between A'Chrois and Beinn Narnain (GR276073). From the col head SW to the summit of Beinn Narnain (926m, GR272067).

Bear NE to Bealach a' Mhaim where a well trodden path ascends the southern slopes of Beinn Ime.

The summit of Beinn Ime (1011m, GR254085) offers magnificent views to the west including Beinn an Lochain, Glen Kinglas and Loch Fyne.

From the summit head NE down the grassy slopes to the head of Gleann Uaine, from here a steep ascent ENE will lead you to the summit of Ben Vane (915m, GR278098) At 915m it checks in at number 283 on the munro tables for the "stato's" out there!

From Ben Vane head ESE down the steep and rocky path which leads back to the forestry track then subsequently east to the main Loch Sloy road. From here it's a steady descent to the banks of Loch Lomond.... as always it feels much longer than when travelled earlier in the day.

The Cobbler (Ben Arthur, 881m, GR259058) can also be included in this circuit to turn this into a serious day in the hills. Alternatively this hill can be ascended from Glen Croe, and although it doesn't cross the lofty 3000ft contour it truly deserves a visit.
