Introduction
These hills are tucked away behind Glenshee and generally accessed
from the north through Glen Ey from Invervey combined with An

However I'd already climbed An Socach
and we had two contrasting weather forecasts for the day and
chose to access them from the Spittal of Glenshee, heading for
Glas Tulaichean and Carn an Righ then heading on to Beinn Iutharn
Mhor if the more optimistic web forecast was correct.
As it turned out after a soaking from a few early squalls it
turned into a beautiful day and we nearly headed off to a fourth
hill.
On returning down Gleann Taitneach we noticed signs for stalking
commencing 1st July were posted. There were no access restrictions
but walkers were asked to keep to the main ridges and out of
the Choires at the head of the Gleann.

Route
- The start
point is the Dalmunzie hotel which can be accessed from
Spittal of Glenshee. Parking is available here for a fee of
£2. For anyone not wanting to pay this fee there is
a large parking area available 2 km before the hotel, GR NO105701.
- From the hotel continue along the road passing through Glenlochsie
farm passing through the gate and into Glen Lochsie.
- This walk has a surprise in store. A track starting at the
farm leads all the way to the summit of Glas Tulaichean. This
isn't shown on all versions of the OS map. If the river isn't
is spate follow the track and cross at the ford, GR NO080717.
Continue along the track to the ruined Glenlochsie lodge,
GR NO063726.

- In our case the river was too high and too fast to cross
without getting wet. We therefore followed the track running
along its eastern bank. When we realised we weren't going
to get across easily we cut up through the heather and followed
the course of an abandoned railway as far as the lodge.
- From the ruin continue on the track and follow the SW ridge
of Glas Tulaichean almost to the end of the track, GR NO049760.
From here a short pull of 30 m is all that is required to
reach the summit of Glas Tulaichean, 1051 m, GR NO051760.
- To carry on to Carn an Righ descend the NE ridge for about
1 km before cutting NW and picking up the path running along
the base of Mam nan Carn. (In good visibility it is possible
to cut the corner here).
- Follow this path to the col between Carn and Righ and Mam
nan Carn, 780 m, GR NO039771. From here continue up the E
flank of Carn an Righ following the path which is well defined
in places. The ground becomes more rocky as the summit of Carn
and Righ is approached, 1029 m, GR NO029772.

- Retrace steps back to the col, 780 m, GR NO039771. If only
two hills are to be climbed follow the track back along the
base of Mam nan Carn as far as Loch nan Eun, GR NO062779.
- As the weather had brightened and the cloud base had risen
considerably we decided to extend the day and climb Beinn
Iutharn Mhor. From the col we followed a faint path up the
SW flank of Mam nan Carn, 986 m, GR NO049789.
- From the summit of Mam nan Carn head NW crossing the bealach
at 910 m, GR NO048784. A short pull of 135 m is all that remains
to the summit of Beinn Iutharn Mhor, 1045 m, GR NO045793.
By now we could see for miles and miles in every direction.
- Return to Mam nan Carn, 986 m, GR NO049789 and descend steeply
to Loch nan Eun, GR NO062779.
- The return to the Dalmunzie hotel is by way of a path down
Gleann Taitneach which starts off steeply alongside the waterfalls
on the east bank of Allt Easgaidh before turning into a bulldozed
track.
- There is a bridge across the river at GR NO089723 again
this is not shown on all OS maps. It is about 1 km from then
end of the Gleann. This was conveniently signed from the Hotel
and there was a well worn path back there.
- We completed the walk to the hotel happy in the knowledge
that we didn't have another 2 km still to go. £2 very
well spent.
